Anyone who thinks airports are simply places where planes take off and land has clearly never been to Kuala Lumpur. The absolute supreme discipline of Southeast Asian travel madness goes by two magical names: KLIA 1 and KLIA 2. One airport, two different worlds, seemingly a thousand kilometers apart—and every single time the exact same question: Am I standing in the right building, or am I about to run a cross-continental marathon?
You check in nice and relaxed, sip the last drops of your coffee, glance at the board, and realization hits: Wrong terminal! Deluxe panic attack. Cue the scramble out of the air-conditioned lounge, hop onto the KLIA Express, glasses fogging up while the train races down the tracks at high speed. You frantically ask yourself: Is this the saving connection, or are we hurtling right past the destination into nowhere? Hold onto your luggage and pray the flight doesn't leave without the old man in the straw hat. Why keep things simple when you can give travelers a heart attack by the minute?
All my personal mishaps, rail fails, and wild stories from my most nerve-wracking airport and train adventures await you fresh over at ueberwintern.com.
Stay relaxed and make sure you board the right train!
