Servus, Grüezi and Hello! Herbie the life artist here.
Anyone who thinks catching a flight nowadays is a predictable routine clearly hasn't met ultimate airline madness. Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of putting myself in the wonderfully unpredictable hands of Thai Airways—and what can I say? A normal flight from A to B is for amateurs. With me, it turns straight into an epic drama with improv theater!
The spectacle started right at the departure in Chiang Mai: Thanks to a creative rescheduling maneuver, my tight schedule wobbled right out of the gate, and upon landing in Bangkok, the airport turned into an endless loop of false promises. The departure boards danced the conga, shifting the flight time hour by hour until a little wait turned into nearly ten hours of overnight sitting. A hotel? Not a chance! A reliable contact person? Out of office. Instead, I got clueless faces and that cozy feeling of being completely stranded in transit limbo.
Of course, the farce didn't stop there. After a late arrival in Manila, it turned out my trusty suitcase had decided to take a vacation in another dimension—it stayed missing for days. So I got to go on a survival shopping spree in the local retail jungle while my receipts piled up higher than palm trees. When the luggage finally arrived days later with a completely smashed wheel, the masterpiece was complete.
And because the drama wouldn't be complete without a plot twist, the airline went ahead and made my confirmed return flight vanish into thin air, despite my e-ticket stubbornly insisting it’s fully confirmed. A literal ghost flight! Between official complaints, case numbers, and bureaucratic ping-pong, this old globetrotter has only one choice left: keep fighting, armed with humor and a fresh coconut.
All my personal mishaps and the full scope of this odyssey await you fresh over at ueberwintern.com.
Stay relaxed and don't let any flight schedule rattle you!
